My Story

My interests and experiences are many and varied.

I earned a Bachelor of English with a Minor in Music from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. I explored many subjects outside of my major, including art (drawing, color, three-dimensional design), engineering (drafting and woodworking), history, computer science, geology, and many other areas of learning.

I worked as a cabinetmaker for ten years in a custom cabinet shop making high-end residential and commercial cabinets and casework. We made complex bank teller lines and reception desks, home cabinetry in a variety of woods and styles, with a lot of plain white boxes with colorful laminate doors, drawers, and countertops for our commercial clients. I used computerized saws and routers, along with hand tools and handheld power tools.

I also trained as a librarian at the Information School at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. I worked in libraries providing reference and user services in academic libraries, managed a small rural public library, and worked in a large urban public library with a makerspace.

My family and I moved back to my hometown to help my mom age-in-place in the house I grew up in. In addition to home and yard maintenance, along with several remodeling projects, I have the opportunity to pursue several of my life-long interests.

I am a stay-at-home dad and am endeavoring to get some woodworking projects underway.
